Site News #19: Modern Ruby with Noel Rappin
Hi graceful devs! I know it’s been a while since the last update. I’ve been preoccupied with childcare and client work. But the Graceful.Dev garden continues to grow, and it’s high time I brought you up to date!
Content Updates
One of the most exciting things happening lately is that Noel Rappin—one of our favorite past contributors—is back with a new series on recent-ish features in Ruby. Noel is the co-author of the completely revamped “Pickaxe Book”, Programming Ruby 5th Edition. That’s the book I first learned Ruby from over twenty years ago! Ruby has changed a lot since then, and Noel is the perfect person to make videos about some of the features and conveniences that have been added in recent years.
The first two episodes of this series are out:
- Ruby Hash Shortcut Syntax: Why say something twice, when you can say it just once?
- Endless Ranges in Ruby: Some concepts are best represented as a set that is unbounded on one end or the other. For instance: “From now until the end of time”. Or “Everything except the last five characters”. In modern Ruby, these concepts can be spelled out explicitly!
