I’m quite vocal about why I use WordPress for hosting courses and other content. See e.g. this post: https://www.rubytapas.com/2017/01/18/five-reasons-refuse-write-software-deliver-screencasts/ as well as my recent #nocode talk, whenever a video of it finds its way to the internet.
One of the things I like to help develoeprs with is choosing the right tool for the job. Content management and delivery is a solved problem, it has been solved better in PHP than in any other language, and reinventing that particular wheel is a waste of very limited time. Given that’s what I preach both publicly and in consulting engagements, if I were to deliver my content using some hand-rolled Rails app it would be hypocritical of me
(I might add that I don’t offer any Rails courses. I DO offer a course on Object-Oriented thinking in the context Ruby and Rails, is that what you were referring to?)

I don’t see why we should be opposed to using another tech stack. We should embrace solutions that work, regardless of the underlying language or framework. It’s not like this course is about how to build an educational CMS system.
Now, constructively, there are certainly some kinks that need to be worked out with the UX. I’m forgiving of the issues we have because this was sold to me as a beta release of the class and Avdi and team have been quick to resolve issues that crop up.

First of all: All I meant was to share the little smile that screenshot put on my face – because in my tiny mind, Avdi is THE rails guy – so anything PHP or any other framework for that matter was funny (.
The last thing I ever want to be is a forum troll.
Please do not let this turn into a 10 billion threads thing, that ends up in why RoR is better or worse than PHP. If this happens, I kindly request the forum admins to just delete the whole thing. Then somebody else can start it again, if they feel it’s important enough – because I dont. It was just a bad joke.
I am extremely happy with the content – whatever platform delivers it. Also if nothing else – I’ve actually gained from Avdi’s answer, as I will try to not invent the wheel over and over in the future – but use the best tool for the job instead.
@Avdi: yes – I must admit I had perceived this course as a Rails Course, even though you have been very specific on the OO thing.

I appreciate the feedback! I do ask that if you have any specific constructive notes on the MOOM beta course, please post them in the MOOM Discussion category. avdi.codes is for a lot more than just one course, and I’d like to make sure I don’t miss course-specific feedback.
I do have some thoughts on things people have brought up here, particularly having to do with how consumer UX is often the most trivial aspect to change for these types of app; where most solutions fall apart is having a backend content workflow that’s robust and efficient for a team of mostly non-developers. But since I’m very short on time and this has gone a bit beyond the category of site feedback, I think I’m going to close it for now.
